Mickey Rourke as Harry Angel, a 1950's chain smokin' gumshoe private detective, hired by the devilish deceiving devious Robert De Niro as Louis Cyphre, to locate a missing person who owes Mr Cyphre a debt. Harry soon realizes this is much more than a missing person case, and he finds himself the number one suspect in a series of grizzly murders. Harry learns the hard way that sometimes people make the wrong deal, with the wrong person. Angel Heart is…

    Fuck. What a fantastic film.
The best Neo-Noir/Horror I can think of, yes better than Se7en.
Rourke and De Niro are incredible.

total snoozefest. Not even De Niro could save this excruciatingly slow paced misfire. I could not wait for it to end.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Alan Parker's "Angel Heart" is a masterfully constructed, deliberately-paced, period noir that sends a perfectly cast Mickey Rourke chasing threads until those threads lead to a voodoo-tainted, Oedepian knot. Parker rewards viewers with mesmerizing performances, visual metaphors and symbols, and a must-watch-the-film-again-as-soon-as-you've-finished payoff. While not necessarily a horror film, "Angel Heart" beats with horror imagery and will take roost in your brain longer after its credits have rolled. Excellent film.

Mickey Rourke is a schlubby PI with a phobia of chickens, Robert De Niro is the subtly named Louis Cyphre and Lisa Bonet is the daughter of a jello loving OB/GYN. At the end a fat gut explains everything and a demon eyed baby points at Mickey Rourke. Pretty good.

The chicken ritual, sex scene, murders, de niro, louis cypher and Mickey Rourke at his best. It was a pure and a smooth fucked up movie. With its time to time unmeaningful gaps in scenerio, cheapness and awful dialogues and mickey rourke's not stopping being mickey rourke even he is in his character, I really loved it.

Voodoo chickens, Southern gothic, satanic tendencies, an enigma wrapped in a riddle, a horror film wrapped in a cloak of mystery, thrills and sweltering-hot chills, Angel Heart is a one-of-a-kind ride of a period piece that oozes grit, grime and sex. Atmospherically, it might be one of my favorite unconventional horror films. It has the goods to keep the story itself going for the mystery buffs but also keeps the horror junkies going with some pitch-perfect mood setting, wonderfully unique…

With Angel Heart it's comforting to discover that, even in his prime, Mickey Rourke has always looked like hammered shit. He also acts his ass off in the lead, as do the supporting cast including a particularly wicked turn from Bobby De Niro.

This is a really well shot little mystery that continually surprised me with each new character, location and direction it took. From New York to New Orleans every scene literally drips with atmosphere and its decent into the fantastical hit my sweet spot. Highly recommended.

"How terrible is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise?"

This is Se7en, The Usual Suspects, The Machinist, Shutter Island, etc. before they existed.

A creepy, cold film full of fucked up images, disturbing storytelling, and haunting sounds all leading up to a nightmarish conclusion; taut filmmaking.

It's definitely one of those films you gotta see more than once to catch everything.

    Great art direction and tonality.

Supernatural occult noir done just how I like it: overly sweaty with twists and turns via a serving of NYC AND New Orleans (dat gumbo tho)

I just picked up the blu and decided to revisit... it’s been years... and since I didn't get into my usual Noirvember mode this year, I decided to pour myself a few glasses of cheap scotch, smoke a bunch of cigarettes, and watch this in black & white. It was a pretty damn perfect way to end a hectic week, I needed this. Also, “Johnny Favorite” is such a great name.

This is one of them films where you appreciate more after seeing it a couple times.
I love Alan Parker's direction with the dark shadows and moody feel. This film is a piece of art.
Mickey Rourke is perfect to play this character and does a good job in doing so. In the late 80's he was a good looking/smooth man, so what on earth happened to you Mickey after 10 years or so.

I’m still contemplating the events that unfolded in the final act, because Jesus Christ...
    Damn, that was psychologically tormenting.

Rourke is astounding here, giving his all here, as is De Niro, who's severely underrated here, even though his role is minimal.

The various sounds and musical cues slowly burn their way into the back of my head, and I began to felt uncomfortable at times.

Okay I'm going to be up front; I've had a really long, emotional, stressful day today so I'm going to keep this short with these small points about this movie.

    - It's really well directed.
    - Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro are awesome.
    - Some parts tend to get a little repetitive in regards to structure.
    - There's some jarring moments of horror sprinkled throughout what is basically a regular murder mystery.
    - The soundtrack is 👌🔥👌🔥👌🔥
    - I…

Stylish, steamy Southern Noir that ups sticks early on, leaving behind the shadows of the city for the slow heat of the Louisiana bayous, where the gumbo is always on the boil, voodoo is in the air and life moves at its own pace. Into this mix comes Brooklyn PI, Harry Angel; a small-time investigator with a hot missing persons case on his hands. The mysterious Johnny Favorite disappeared 12 years earlier with a debt to pay and Angel's client…

Before Mickey Rourke had more work done on his face than a middle aged Beverly Hills housewife, he was a great actor. Pair him with Director Alan Parker, a great script from one of the "Paperbacks from Hell," and a supporting cast that includes Robert DeNiro and you have a classic!

Rourke plays Harry Angel, a NYC PI hired by the mysterious DeNiro to track down a crooner named Johnny Favorite who has disappeared. Angel discovers a web of bodies…

Angel Heart is a seriously creepy movie.

A modern horror that is ahead of its time.

Versatile director Alan Parker has crafted a quite stunning thriller. It's a throwback to the classic noir of the 1930's and 1940's, with a rather straight up detective story. Although it's a story that holds your attention from the first minute to the last. Mainly due to the quite extraordinary performance from Mickey Rourke.

This is also a masterclass in mood building. Every scene…
