It bites off a bit more than it can chew, but it’s a great satire nonetheless.

(nobody dissects societal issues as well as Spike Lee. nobody. people complain that his stuff's on the nose, but that's total horseshit. he doesn't care for subtlety simply because there. is. no. room. for. subtlety. there is no room for ambiguity where the issues being tackled stem from environments fundamentally devoid of it.)

First time all the way through. Interesting. Unlike Girl 6—whose evacuation from Spike's canon, so far as the public seems to be concerned, is completely baffling to me—this is a movie whose lack of popularity makes complete sense. I admire the attempt. More when the time comes.

Better than Network, also one of the most important films of the 21st Century on media and the media’s portrayal of African Americans and the business mongering corporations that don’t care about people’s lives, but only their monetary lives. Eerily predicts Kanye’s TMZ interview to a tea.

I used to hate this movie because I thought it was too on the nose. Now I wish more films would be as radical and forthright as this one. Damon Wayans' weird take on Pierre Delacroix feels very pointed and intentional, but it still doesn't work for me. Otherwise almost everything in this movie is about as caustic and smart as Spike Lee gets. Compare it to snoozers like Selma and Top Five to see how far award shows and the such are from embracing truly acerbic films.

Spike Lee's manifesto. This is an uneven, aggressive piece of work, one that jumps around to capture every single thing that its creator hates about the world around him. This is deeply personal, something that could only come from Lee, and it stands as one of the most daring American films of the 2000's. The end feels a little unsatisfying, but the 2 hours leading up to it make it hard to see any ending giving the gut punch this…

Spike Lee is a mixed bag.
He makes some of my favorites like Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing. But he makes tripe like Oldboy.

Look, I'm African American. Like a lot of people, I hate the current quality of Black Entertainment. I respect Spike Lee's ambitions, but this is not the way to make…

Spike Lee vs The World. The angriest, craziest, most in-your face, unapologetically confrontational Spike Lee joint I've ever seen, shredding all attempts at subtlety or restraint and going right for the jugular for the entire runtime, presenting horrifying scenario after horrifying scenario until you're battered into submission and then it keeps going…

Part Thirteen of the Spike Lee Feature Film Project

This is probably Lee's most direct attempt at discussing the racism still prevalent in modern day America, using the crossroads of a new millennia to look at past and present representation of black people in the media. He asks the question of what being black and white is supposed to be, how is it supposed to look and who is in charge of that identity.
