Never heard of this previously but needed one last one to take my 5 for 30 quid at HMV. Took a punt on this and it was alright. Had a wee Phantasm vibe to it. Some nice wee ideas at times but wasn't that much fun.

Okay, finale!!! I was really on the fence until the last act, but this movie went balls-deep when it mattered most. That was one of the Fulci-est endings I’ve seen in a non-Italian horror movie. 0 to 100 real quick.

you have to invest like 1hr 15 before anything good happens but once it does its an absolute grossfest rollercoaster of bizarre spooky shenanigans. and i would move to the moon for a chance of being meg tilly's pal.

I so loved everything about One Dark Night. The story is quite appealing, it is beautifully shot (and deserves a remaster!), the score is bomb, the villain is a corpse who shoots lightning out of his eyes!!! What more could you want? Well there are also super sweet looking reanimated corpses, stunning location shots of early 80s los angeles, a lovely mausoleum, a charming cast... my dream come true! The plot is so overstuffed with needless detail that I haven't…

    Scavenger Hunt #47
TASK #9: A teen film from the 1980's!

A fun, atmospheric, and surprisingly unique and interestingly plotted horror film from Jason Lives writer and director Tom McLoughlin, One Dark Night is an underrated old-school genre entry whose slow build-up makes way to a genuinely frightening and thrilling final half-hour.

Two well worn horror plots, one about a man who went too far experimenting with dark arts and another about a cruel initiation prank, don't so much flow together as they ooze together. A super young and adorable Meg Tilly is there. So is Dottie from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and she's wearing the world's tightest jeans. And a wax dummy of Adam West on loan from Madame Tussaud's makes an appearance. Is it fully satisfying? No, but neither is most of the garbage food I eat, but I like the way it tastes all the same.

One Dark Night starts out fairly strong with a creative use of sound and visual editing, playing a police correspondence over the discovery of a pile of dead girls in an apartment building ravished by extensive telekinetic activity.

Unfortunately, the movie fizzles out after that strong opening and continues to settle until it is completely flat. There is a bit of a resuscitation towards the very end but you have to wonder if the pay off was worth the wait.…

Blue psychic lightning that erupts from eyeballs, a broken body bombarded with its own barbarism, the silent hovering of the dead, a single candle that flickers against the darkness, against the marble, against the power that persists beyond the flesh. Psychic waves emanating through time and space, shuddering through the air to those receptive to sigils of power. An auditory exegesis of corruption. a mirror that pings the perversion of power, closing the circuit of necro-lightning

Wow this was great! A film that's been in my watchlist forever and I'm glad I finally checked it out. A solid atmospheric 80s horror film with a lot going for it. Creepy setting, great performances and one of the best scores I've heard in awhile!

I was hooked right from the start with that bleak opening scene of all the dead college girls shoved together in the closet. Then we have an awesome panning camera shot that travels through…

So this is exactly the kind of movie that I would have wanted an older kid to describe to me in granular detail in 1983 after seeing it themselves or, even better, hearing about it from some even older kid or adult and repeating it by just making up the details they didn't remember or what sounded good. In 1983 I was 9 and I would have been in love with this movie. I am pretty much in love with…

Promising weirdo supernatural horror flick that rides the slow-burn & PG highways with a devil-may-care attitude.

The film opens on a BIG note as the police discover the bodies of 6 girls in an apartment of an occultist scientist. There are corpses and there are lasers and there is dread dread dread.
The gloomy opening has a weird slow pace to it, kinda like it's warming up the engine until it arrives at what is actually the central story of the…

If you want gratuitous shots of people wandering around mausoleum hallways in your horror films, you're far better off sticking with an umpteenth rewatch of "Phantasm".

Karl Raymar, a psychokinetic vampire that feeds on the bioenergy of his female victims, dies at the start of the film. His daughter (Melissa Newman) comes to learn that she may possess the same power. Meanwhile, it's initiation time for poor high schooler Julie (Meg Tilly), who wants to be part of the snooty…
