I like to imagine that Bill Murray's character in Broken Flowers is the same as his character in Lost in Translation, but Broken Flowers just shows his life if he decided not to settle down and get married.

Delicate and melancholy, Broken Flowers shares the same rich, haunting quality that defines the best of Jim Jarmusch's work.

    Pretty good.

Broken Flowers is about a man visiting former love interests. The film looks alright. The soundtrack grooves. The plot works well enough. The ending may have been better. Available on HBOGO, Broken Flowers is a recommended auteur requirement that may otherwise be skipped.

Despite being littered with some prejudice and misogyny, Broken Flowers is an interesting exploration of the past's fusion with the present, particularly highlighting life's varietal paths.

Jim Jarmusch is the master of the relaxed and the melancholy and Broken Flowers is a film that replaces a conventional narrative with great music, some amazing performances and a mood that lingered with me for days.

Classic Jim Jarmusch. Broken Flowers excels in its ability to slowly paint a picture of a man's isolation but in a positive manner as he searches for a lost son, not really by choice but out of boredom.

Another turn from Bill Murray akin to his performance in Lost in Translation takes Broken Flowers from being a run of the mill indie comedy to something a little more exciting.

Bill Murray goes existential in Jim Jarmusch’s distant cousin to the rom-com. Populated by ghosts in various stages of arrested development, Broken Flowers is a deceptively sad mystery of the soul.

Broken Flowers features one of Bill Murray's finest performances. It, like the film, is subtle, understated and beautifully executed. I'd have liked a tighter ending, but the journey was most of the fun anyway.

Definitely some strong Lost in Translation vibes, obviously because of Murray but also the sense of a successful life still unsatisfactorily lived. Broken Flowers is much more pessimistic however, with an ending that really tip toes the line between being dour or just downright depressing.

Jarmusch is an interesting filmmaker, whose highs and lows have either been either REALLY high or REALLY low. Broken Flowers is definitely on the higher side, mostly average but really elevated by the conclusion.

We do things, we know people, we get older, and then we have a chance to look back. At everything. Specific things. Broken Flowers reminds me of this, but starring Bill Murray.
