In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love ★★★★★

Out of all the rewatches I have planned, from The Departed to Seven Samurai, Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love has been my most anticipated viewing. Not only serving as my introduction to Wong, I found Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung (who are now some of my favorite people to grace the silver screen) through this magnificent examination of feelings - melancholy, frustration, and love. Fleeting love, a tragic kind. Confined in the tight hallways and rainy streets of 60s Hong Kong, this secret-within-a-secret is something we view through a dusty camera lens that blesses us with slow-mo noodle eating montages and martial arts serial writing sessions… this movie is an unbridled masterpiece and has more than earned it’s way back into my top 50. Not even my favorite Wong either, he’s just that cool. Shoutout to the Angkor Wat scene for ruining my life
