Benedick Lewis’s review published on Letterboxd:
You know when a country sees another country’s sitcom and thinks we could make that and then it fail miserably (anyone heard of the US remake of Red Dwarf?)? This is kind of the story for Paul, the fourth in the cornetto trilogy that fits about as well as pineapple does on a pizza - if you like pineapple on a pizza, you’ll love this film.
It’s not that Paul is particularly bad in any sense, it just feels like having great US comedians such as Jason Bateman and Kristen Wiig seems a little ill fitting to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s script. Well, that and it’s not overly memorable either spare a fart or nerd joke here and there. It would be like remaking Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz - you just don’t do it.
See this if you enjoyed The World’s End. That was the weaker of the trilogy. It’s good but not exactly memorable.
