So I wanted to make a list to highlight black female directors and writers. And that way anyone who wanted to watch more films directed by black women could use this as a reference point. This is in no way a comprehensive list so I'll always add more as time goes on, and if anybody feels like I missed any please let me know and I'll correct it!
UPDATE!!!! So thanks to a website called black women directors.co i was able to add a lot more films, short films, and visual pieces to this list
Another thing I wanted to add is that unfortunately I wasn’t able to add some black filmmakers because up until this point they’ve only directed TV shows and or Letterboxd doesn’t have their profile on here. If and when that changes I’ll add the ones I couldn’t do.
