Solo: A Star Wars Story ★★★½

Wasn't too keen for this movie so I'm shocked that I enjoyed it. As a EU fan I've never felt so personally pandered to, so many name-drops that I was unreasonably happy about, I'm sure lots of them will bother the uninitiated. Performances were fine, Woody Harrelson has nothing to do for the middle chunk of the movie, a few characters die and I couldn't have cared less. Didn't get into the train heist sequence very much, it had a lot of jerky camera movements, which I only noticed because there was a shot towards the end of it that didn't cut away for a few seconds. Also a bit weird to find out that a lot of what we know about Han's past from the OT occurred in the space of a few days.

I will probably end up reevaluating my opinion of this movie significantly on rewatch, I'll see if I was just too excited that I was enjoying it at the start, causing any flaws to be overlooked.
Overall this movie had an enthusiasm for the franchise that I found infectious, I think in the long run the anthology films are going to feel more in-line with the franchise compared to the sequels.

Some fun facts: The opening scenes in both anthology films so far take place in the same in-universe year. Kessel in the Legends continuity had a different shape, instead of a sphere it looked kind of like a potato.
