Paganini Horror 1989
"Too many strange things have happened, too many things that go beyond logic"
Well, that's because it's a Luigi Cozzi movie, the Poundland Argento! It starts a bit slow with a waaay too long cheesy soft rock rendition but as soon as the groovy band reach the haunted mansion it all kicks off in an utterly nonsensical and rather entertaining fashion. It's a bit cheap and tatty around the edges but I had fun, not sure what Paganini would have thought of it though. Extra half star for Donald P camping it up in style.

Splendidly bonkers sequel to the only slightly less bonkers 'Night Watch'. This just makes me wish that there were more Russian big budget blockbusters, it's grimy urban fantasy aesthetic and excellent mix of practical and cgi effects are a real treat.
And did I mention quite how utterly crazy it is?
It reminded me of Terry Gilliam at his most uncontrolled and anarchic, Jeunet and Caro at their most fantastic, all shot through with deliciously dark and sometimes dappy Russian…
