Escape from L.A.

Escape from L.A. ★★½

BOM - The 90s Action Month

I know John Carpenter did an interview a number of years ago insisting that we all slept on Escape from L.A., that it's an improvement over Escape from New York and that everyone would come to their senses about it at some point.

I wonder if he feels the same way now. Escape from L.A. is not what El Dorado was to Rio Bravo. It's not quite what Psycho (1998) was to Psycho (1960) either but I know which it's closer to. There's really no point to this at all, it runs exactly the same plays in almost exactly the same order all with a bigger budget and far, far shittier special effects.

Now, if Carpenter thought he could improve on Escape from New York and that's why he made this, fine. He's fallen some way short but he was always on to a loser as soon as he put some basketball in it. Bad fuckin' choice.
