Hidden Figures ★★★

The Letterboxd Era Catch-Up 4: 53 Days a Slave

Even by the standards of your usual Hollywood biopic, Hidden Figures is amazingly safe and formally bland.

So I'm torn between whether it deserves to be criticised for its surprising lack of political depth and artistic ambition or whether I should leave it alone because at least it made many people aware of these three extraordinary women and many like them.

Either way, Taraji, Octavia, Janelle and Kevin made it worthwhile, as they were always pretty much nailed on to do.
