Wrath of Man

Wrath of Man ★★★

Seeing the MGM logo before this hit a little differently this time around. I have seen that lion so many times, and it always made me happy. Now, it's some rich guy's pet. Puta madre.

Guy Ritchie's extremely straightforward tuff guys macho action thriller, and that are the pros. I had low expectations after watching the trailer, but this pleasantly surprised me. Ritchie toned down his usual sensibilities, but kept his directorial touches here and there, especially with some neat camera tricks, and the compulsion to give his characters weird nicknames. I liked the non-linear way the story unfolded, because a linear narrative would have been pretty mediocre.

A good time, nothing less, nothing more. Like an elevated direct-to-DVD actioner.

Good to see Statham and Ritchie working together again. I, like most of the world, was enamored with Ritchie after the one-two punch of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and with each passing entry see him delve into more mediocre fare (with the exception of The Man from U.N.C.L.E, and the Sherlock movies are enjoyable fodder, just not the highs of his earlier triumphs. The less we talk about King Arthur, however, the better).
