In a time where MARVEL had barely any success at the silver screen, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was a burst of camp, heart, energy and soul. The sequel expanded upon that and both films were loved, but more importantly, the character of Spider-Man was loved.
Spider-Man 3 takes that lovable, kind and charming hero and turns him into an egotistical, arrogant asshole. While the first two films begin with a monologue about his love for Mary Jane or his school life, this starts off with a slightly braggadocius one about Peter's accolades as Spider-Man. Sowing the seeds for the ego that consumes him. The symbiote only amplifies his ego and his self indulgence while also being a fantastic allergory for alcholism and addiction.
Boasting some of the finest action set pieces in recent years and a bag full of emotions. Spiderman 3 is a messy, tonally inconsistent but lovely conclusion to an excellent trilogy of film.
