All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front ★★★★½

Expertly captures the hopelessness and absurdity of war. I’ve never seen a movie paint a picture so clearly of how wide the canyon is between the priorities of those in power and those actually fighting the fight. It’s hard to rank this among the best contemporaries like 1917 and Dunkirk, but this is definitely in the conversation.

Felix Kammerer was a very compelling lead and I hope to see him in many more things. Most of the chatter I hear about this film is how it stacks from a technical and visual perspective, but for me, the tragic details of what these people went through were the clear standout.
