maggie’s review published on Letterboxd:
A gothic camp drama thriller about political corruption and socioeconomic angst wherein the heroes and villains are self-satisfying and equally irredeemable? The perfect “superhero” film. Superheroes are those privileged, delusional men in tights assaulting people on the street in the name of justice that we are to assume are “good”, even though goodness does not exist, evilness is relative and the chaos each extreme stirs is terrorizing. There is no moral high ground you can take with this material, every character is awful in their own right. And after all, the story of the Batman is, at its core, camp escapism, and that is exactly what Batman Returns is.
