Dakota Fanning was really excellent playing an autistic woman. And especially not going over the top with the role. If they had spent even half a second on the character development of anyone else in the film this would have been really top notch. Instead it just ends up being good not great.

    Troop Zero

    ★★

I missed the boat on this one. It is certainly sweet and delivers on what you would expect in an "us against the world" film. But that is about the entire takeaway I got. The movie is not particularly well acted especially by the kids. The snobby "superior" troop is mean for no reason that drives the plot other than to just be jerks. And sadly there were just zero laughs.

    ★★★½

I really enjoy the first 2/3 of this adaptation of Stephen King's short story. And then things fly off the deep end and a "monster" is introduced. The mythical "monster" never seems to pan out in 80's horror. Special effects were just a little too young to make them believable. My only other criticism every time I see this movie is that there is not nearly enough Huskers memorabilia anywhere to be found. I know Nebraska small towns and you could not go into a diner and not see 10-20 pieces of Nebraska gear on the walls. At least if you want to make any money.

    Doctor Sleep

    ★★★★

Doctor Sleep actually does a really nice job of giving credit to its roots. While it cannot live up to The Shining, there are some wonderful scenes at the Overlook Hotel that were nicely inspired. For a horror film, the story is solid (a nice adaptation from the book) and there is plenty of creepy vibes. I also appreciated the fact that they did not rely on jump scares, there was definitely more of a slow burn aspect to the horror.
