Abdul Moeed Qurishi’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Despite being definitely beautifully visualized, cheerfully executed, and boasting the top-notch voice talent of Alec Baldwin, the film is weak and should have thought through multiple times before making it.”
Based on a picture book of the same name, Boss Baby has ingredients of an animated movie that fails to hit us as the animated movie should. Being based on the premise of a baby being a boss of a Baby Corp, that provides babies to the world and keeps the balance for baby happiness, the film takes itself pretty serious than it should and that’s where the problem occurs at times its way too serious and when jokes to come around they have left nothing but bland, I mean come one it's 2017 we as the viewer really don’t understand the use of farts as jokes. Boss Baby continues the same formula that every animated movie contains a reveal that can be seen 50 minutes before it comes. Voiced by Alec Baldwin, Boss Baby comes into the life of Tim (Miles Bakshi) together they must stop the evil Francis Francis (Steve Buscemi) who is launching the cutest thing that will make babies a second thing to have. Boss Baby contains a very weak script that feels outdated too, the internet baby boom is already over, many tweaks are given to crow the film but quite doesn’t lift the whole predictive plot. There are some good moments, like Tim vs Boss Baby, the time when they make Boss Baby quite similar to any Baby, and when they make reality mingle with Boss Baby reality. Dreamworks does provide good colorful animation, I mean the Tim fantasies and adventures are attractive. While the score feeble like the film Boss Baby will likely be one of lowest points of studios in recent years. While I haven’t seen much of recent Dreamwork works, except for Kung Fu Panda I believe they are not making great films either, Trolls and Storks all were pretty forgettable. I would say pass this one up as it's not the greatest animated movie you can find much better from Dreamworks from their filmography.
Bonus
Tim fantasies. Colorful animation.
Drawback
Weak villain. Weaker story. A complication of the plot. Outdated concept. Jokes aren’t really funny either.
