This movie is like Shallow: I think it's really great and then they go and sing "in the sha-a-sha-a-a-llow in the shala-shala-shalalow" and I chuckle as I think about how bad it is.
For real though, I constantly oscillated between enjoying the direction, performances and writing, and lamenting the missed opportunities to actually express a point of view. What is this movie about, really? I don't know.
Maybe I need to take another look at ya, Star Is Born, so that I might understand.
