Hearts Beat Loud ★★★½

I can't quite place it—maybe it's the stereotypical "record store guy" music recommendations or the "here's a character, plus some quirk" vibe, or the "Brooklyn, but not-quite-gentrified" setting—but I didn't latch onto this as much as I wanted to.

Too bad, too, because there's a lot to like here, especially in the casting (Offerman and Clemons are great, Ted Danson is always a delight) and the original songs, which are just the right amount of catchy while still feeling amateurish enough to seem like a father & daughter could write them.
