Shawn Ko’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve been eager to give Y Tu Mamá También a watch as I have enjoyed the other films that I’ve seen by Cuarón, but after finishing this movie it, unfortunately, left me a little disappointed. I was not expecting this movie to be as graphic as it was. I usually don’t have an issue with this, but I was taken aback by how sexually explicit some of the scenes were.
I also felt no deep connection to any of the characters and wished that the conversations that they had had more meaning to them. A lot of them rubbed me the wrong way (and that may just be because of my personal preferences), but I didn’t appreciate and connect to them as I have in other scenarios. However, you can not deny that the three leads did a fine job with what they were given, and you can tell that they all had amazing chemistry with each other. So, Y Tu Mamá También was an okay movie that had a few memorable moments, but overall it left me wanting more.
