the characters are fantastic, and while i started it with some amount of disdain for the corniness of the premise, i'll admit it really moved me by the end

i have little patience in general for paul thomas anderson, and while i'll admit that it was funny, the nonsensical weirdness-for-the-sake-of-weirdness does nothing for me when i still feel like the director is there the entire time, trying to tell me how great his latest masterpiece is

devo is so inspired, very few bands would have either the gall or the sensibility to make this and accordingly i see it as the peak of potential for music videos - it manages to convey perfectly a sense of the band, it takes risks that pay off in terms of visuals, and of course the sound and music transcend any comparison to lesser works which might diminish their value
