My first Jane Campion movie and it’s brilliant! Love me a solid western film, and add on some great performances and a slow, but moving story, you’ve got yourself an all-time classic in the making. Cumberbatch is just so good as this vile man that you can’t help but keep your eyes on him. It’s one of the year’s best performances. Kodi Smit-McPhee is also pretty great too, which I never expected from him, he stood his own against greats like Dunst and Cumberbatch. Beautiful cinematography and music really makes us feel immersed in this story. Sure thr CGI can look wonky, but it’s used sparingly.

The whole time I was watching this, I thought: “will these two girls be great tennis players later in life, all I know about them is they are 2 of the best tennis players of all time.” It’s funny watching this cause I know where it’s going to end (and continue) for Serena and Venus, but the movie was still enjoyable thanks to some great performances and a solid sports movie about tennis. Will Smith definitely deserves all the praise he has received for his role in this film.

This is quite the dramatic story, but pieces feel missing. Not because they couldn’t interview the team, but because so much of this is made tense for no reasons at all. Like the whole situation is tense and then they put in some (at times) silly reenactments. Like this is good, but not to the heights of Free Solo.

Every once in a while, I would just laugh because the accents, dialogue, scenes were just so weird and hilarious. This movie is way too long, but it also can be enjoyable at times. This one will get all the award buzz, but I think the other Scott film of 2021 is the better movie overall.

This is a frustrating doc in a lot of ways. It focuses a lot on these 3 families, and each of them have their own tragic backgrounds about why they fled to Sweden. We learn about their kids having Resignation Syndrome, but that’s about it. Their characters are defined by this syndrome that is starting to effect more and more kids. The doc decides to show a narrow focus of it, and there was an opportunity to do a deeper…

I hate that I’m rating this so low. I’ve heard nothing except excellent thing about this movie for years and years, and I finally watch it to discover that it just wasn’t for me. The animation does look nice, but I was let down by some weaker characters and plot elements that kept me from getting further hooked by this movie. I was left confused at times until it all became clear, but there are still elements which I don’t…
