    Finally overcame my skepticism and tried Scorsese's KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON. As expected, using (even masterfully deployed) classically closed-cinema techniques to depict or critique American genocide (of the Osage nation, here) has to fail. Its failure is bound up in the project. 

    Scorsese suggests, by gesturing towards mildly fracturing his self-sufficient narrative machine at the very end, that he knows his project is self-contradictory.
