There’s something really strong about The Beatles music performances in this film. Maybe its just the songs themselves but - I feel like Danny Boyle knew how to make the world stand still when they were being performed. Especially The Long and Winding Road. That sequence is one of my favorite scenes of last year.

The Beatles really are one of the greatests of anything ever to exist, man.

    Black Panther

    ★★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I can’t think of a stranger Best Picture nominee in recent memory. Not bad, like Bohemian Rhapsody, just legitimately strange.

It’s not great. It’s far from great. The cgi looks terrible (especially on the rhinos), the comedy writing is incredibly forced, the music can be way too over the top and distracting, every performance is incredibly lack luster except from Michael B Jordan and Forest Whitaker, and besides looking really REALLY cool - T’Challa’s kind of a weak character.

There’s some fun action but everything is so coked up and going…

    The Irishman

    ★★★★½

I am a HUGE fan of Silence. I think that’s one of the big greats of the decade.

The Irishman is a return to form of sorts for Scorsese, the form everyone knows him for. Mean streets, goodfellas, casino, departed, wolf of wall street - if those are your pinnacle Scorsese films then you can’t pass up the Irishman. It’s mob hits to Sinatra, funny dialogue over corpses, big meetups in Italian restaurants - etc.

    But when this movie gets…
