Lauren’s review published on Letterboxd:
When I finished this film, my friend asked me: What did you think? I said “It’s honest.” What is it honest about? The growing decay of rural American life. When I watched this film, I was immediately transported to all the real sensations and memories I have of my childhood in a rural midwestern town. Gummo is a portal into a world you don’t want to see, you don’t want to see it because this world isn’t a fantastical projection; it is a mirror.
