well of course 5 stars.
Hard to understand why this film never got a proper theatrical release, neither do I understand why it is considered as a bad film. It is easily one of Schaffners finest films with Planet of the Apes, The War Lord, islands in the Stream and Papillon - and by far better than The Boys from Brazil and Nicholas and Alexandra. Even though it has only a very light fantasy-element and it arrived very late while the Fantasy wave in the 1980s was already gone, it is even among these films one of the finest.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
That happens not too often in cinema. The film was just running 10 minutes and I was sure it will be one of the greatest journeys I ever made with a film.
One of 5 (!!) masterpieces in only 6 years). A lot of filmmaker are called or call themselves poets of cinema. Well Terrence Malick is a true poet.
