Ben Murray’s review published on Letterboxd:
OK Polanski, I see what your game is. You're all about a beautiful looking Black & White film aren't you? Well, mission accomplished. This is just stunning to look at. Following Repulsion which I wasn't too keen on, I could actually get a little more into the story of this one. The striking black and white set against the coastline of England makes for a truly stunning setting. What plays out is an absurdly hilarious farce when a criminal crashes into the remote home of a newly married couple. The acting is gonzo-style batshit crazy and Donald Pleasance more than rises to the occasion.
There are some really funny moments and really bizarre moments (that'll probably have me returning for a second watch), but as with Repulsion, by journey's end I wonder what it was all for. If it's the emasculation of man and a powerful woman rising from his ashes, why does she not seem powerful at all? Rather, she comes across as manipulative. Anyway, I had fun with this one, though not enough!
"That fucking bitch tried to pull my ear off!"
