Keep in mind, this won't be a historic retelling of Napoleon's conquest. Ridley Scott gave himself the artistic freedom to retell the story from the perspective of a satire comedic biopic. Despite the film’s focus on Napoleon's character (especially his flaws), the battle sequences are as epic as you can imagine and the set pieces are impressive. Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby’s acting abilities were underutilised but they were great with what they were given.

I still wanted to give the movie a fair shot and my opinion unfortunately didn't change. The elements of character development and pacing are vital to an origin story. There's no nuance to these elements in either the movie or book despite the 157 min length or the thick ass book. I understand its an action movie and purely amusement which did meet my expectations but…
