    “Further in!”

Using such precise language, C.S. Lewis penned what was to be the most magical book series of all time. While none of the seven books manages to reach an 80,000 word count (a count that is widely considered to be a novel’s minimum length), each book managed to transport my 9yo consciousness to a whole other world, and themselves into my literary heart in the process. To this day, I wonder whether or not Narnia is real. Not…

In my mind, there are three categories of anime. There’s lighthearted+fun anime, horny boob anime, and deep anime. This is deep anime. So redemptive and tirelessly fervent.

Well… it was better than the first one. I’ve always thought of Denis as a self-indulgent, “this is deep” filmmaker, which results in things like audience retention snatching the backburner of his mind when making a film. Don’t get me wrong, this can be deep, but deep philosophy usually stands on its own and impacts the audience no matter what type of film you’re watching. If you go into this without an outstanding Logan Paul bias it’s actually pretty good. It has a plausible dystopian premise too which makes it scary. World governments have committed much more genocide while providing far fewer excuses, and standardized testing is already frightening enough on its own.

(Logan Paul biases are totally justified tbh, I’m not a fan of his but the movie itself ain’t all that bad.)

My great-grandfather ALMOST fought at Omaha in the 29th division. After getting shipped overseas, he was rejected after a second physical exam. They said he had a heart murmur. This goes without saying, but judging by the movie I probably wouldn’t be here.

    Other notes:

    -Ed Burns is greatness.
-Spielberg knows exactly when and when not to use shaky-cam, and to what extent
-Stunt Coordinator Andy Bennett absolutely rocked this picture
-Tom Hanks did a fabulous job (obviously) but I also…
