Part III is weird because it isn't as consistent or as pure as Part 2, but it's also genuinely fun in a dumb lovable way. All the terrible 3D pop-out effects, like passing the joint and the eyeball launched from its socket, add to the silly vibe, and once this decides to stop fucking around and actually get to work, it's as vicious as they come. The wind storm atmosphere is top-notch too. All the bellowing leaves and such. Very spooky. Offering a boring hang-out vibe with cardboard cutouts for the first 45 minutes, and then the rest of it being a kill/chase montage, is honestly a great joy that I wouldn't change for the world. Add in a banger disco theme and *the* Jason mask and you got a winner from 1982. The catch-up opening reel of The Final Chapter renders a lot of this mute for a casual fan, but it's worth it for Chris Higgins, probably my favorite final girl in the franchise. She outsmarts Jason at every move. At times, this is ingenious comedy, mostly because it's fucking dumb, but it's scary when it counts. The setting, look, characters, and structure is peak golden age trash slasher.
