Few Disney films delve so deep into the flawed humanity of their characters, but leave it to a film involving fucking aliens to fix that problem immediately and with a tremendous amount of ease. Lilo and Stitch, directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders (IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW), is a glorious mixture of 50s sci-fi trappings laden within a gentle study of family dysfunction.
It's kinda rare that something this perfect came out of Disney in the early 2000s, but it happened, and it should be recognized more often. Fantastic action set-pieces, an economical narrative, fascinating characters, brilliant one-liners, heartbreaking moments; It has it all and It's over in 85 minutes. Grab some popcorn and some tissues and enjoy.
