    Solid performances from all concerned, although I think Gere's role should have been played by someone shabbier and scuzzier.
    But the three separate stories are tied together in a perfunctory way that doesn't really say much other than "Oh, that's a coincidence", and it's a good 20 minutes too long.

    It's ironic that a film which keeps telling us that its protagonist is abnormal and thinks differently has such a conventional screenplay. Everything is signposted and underlined in clumsy, explanatory dialogue. I think Cumberbatch was miscast and he gives a fussy, twitchy performance which is easily outclassed by the very impressive young actor who plays Turing in the flashbacks to his school days.

    Beautifully made, surprisingly gory, surprisingly funny, but I think there's less here than meets the eye.
    Pugh is fantastic and holds the whole thing together, and Aster shows great control over the visuals. But what's it really about? Is it just an attempt to freak the audience out, without actually saying anything? If so then it really didn't need to be 140 minutes long.
