2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey ★★★★★

Second time in a week, yeah. Had to check the UHD disc to see how it measured up against last week's poorly-projected effort, and this really is the best-looking thing ever. The warm and heat of the opening in the arid deserts of the Dawn of Man look like they were shot yesterday, and even the added clarity on the seams of the monkey suits isn't enough to convince you this isn't 100% magic. Shout-out to Keir Dullea too, giving what proves to be a better performance every time I watch him. The man is a committed professional staring into the face of unknowable oblivion, playing it straight and subtle and no doubt being an inspiration for Ryan Gosling's buttoned-down Neil Armstrong performance. See you again next week, 2001!
