The Forgiven

The Forgiven ★★½

John Michael McDonagh's 'The Forgiven' is a not-so-subtle drama about class, privilege, race, selfishness, and redemption that, despite numerous opportunities provided by its screenplay, fails to generate genuine tension. The dialogue is clumsy, the characters are paper-thin stereotypes, and there is barely any chemistry between any of the leads. The cast is adequate, and there are some strong performances, but the plot's tepid execution ultimately undermines them.
