Even by the standards of bad horror movies, Wes Craven's directorial debut, 'The Last House on the Left,' is awful - and it's not just because of its subject matter. The movie is more like Craven's attempt at amateur snuff, with its straightforward depictions of violence against captive women are done in ridiculous, amateurish fashion. And what about the incredibly indecent use of the cheery music and songs during the violent scenes involving rape, torture, and humiliation? Ugh. Whatever Craven was going for in 'The Last House on the Left,' it clearly didn't work. Frighteningly bad.
