The Nightingale ★★★★

Jennifer Kent's 'The Nightingale' explores the notions that modern Australia was founded on the enslavement and debasement of indigenous people and that many of society’s gravest ills are rooted in toxic white masculinity.

Anchored by two unforgettable performances in Aisling Franciosi and Baykali Ganambarr, Kent's sophomore effort is a brutal and deeply upsetting film at almost every turn as it is a powerful reckoning with the past and a cautionary reflection of the present and future.
