Novelist and former rabbinical student Keith Thomas makes the leap from page to the big screen with his feature debut 'The Vigil.' The movie takes themes such as grief, trauma, and forgiveness and weaves them together with ancient folklore within Jewish culture and mysticism. The concept of the film is interesting, but the delivery falls short due to the mediocre execution of its scares - frequent use of shrieking noises, blaring music, and bland jump-scares. Not the best, but still enjoyable with some good horror moments and impressive performance from Dave Davis.
