a total blast of ridiculous 80's cheese courtesy of Renny Harlin (I have to say how great it feels to have a fellow Finnish person directing in Hollywood, makes this a bit special for me) with some of the most inventive sequences like the time loop and some of the weirdest and gnarliest kills in the franchise, Roach Motel anyone? this is some pretty goofy stuff but it's visually terrific, slathered in this great MTV style aesthetic and uses bright saturated colors. yeah i'll grant you this does the Dream Warriors dirty for sure and Tuesday Knight is no Patricia Arquette, but I did like the new cast for the most part especially Alice and I appreciate a Slasher franchise that actually kinda cares about their characters and the idea of being able to harness the power of your friends to beat your trauma is a pretty powerful one. Freddy is a full on quip machine, he even raps at the end credits! and some of the stuff he does gets incredibly ridiculous like the beach scene for example but it is still mostly fun so that didn't bother me but I feel it's going to get old fast with the next two and the way he comes back is silly and I don't even quite understand it fully. pretty fun all things considered.
