Watched this as a fill-gap before game three of Denver Miami...
and it caught me unawares with its exuberant, lively brand of cinema.
All-round excellence.

[Watched on a 4k reissue print in the IFI Cinema 3].
I hadn't seen this since we taped it off the tv as a kid.
Probably features the most interesting performance from Michael Madsen in his tawdry career; what is little more than a handful of scenes - yet he essays something downbeat, subtle and listless. Subtle - not normally a quality you associate with the crispily, crease-browed one.
[Watched in a 2k print in the IFI, Dublin on Sunday April 30th 2023 in a full gulp with two fifteen minute intermissions].
"Tango is my life. Tango. Tango."
"And plodding, plodding, plodding, and then plodding."
On this point, could the IFI not have stumped up for a proper 4k print ffs?
Too much to take in in one sitting, and not helped by some chap very far along on the spectrum laughing his arse off at everything intermittently.
Will…
Hard to find fault with this.
Nicely outlandish in the end.
Highlight was Cox failing to get the knife in and getting knocked off balance which was greeted by the late middle-aged bloke next to me going in sincere frustration, "OH FOR FUCK SAKE!" in an audible whisper.
The same bloke also had another highlight when he made a nice loud kissing sound during a kissing scene later on. Top audience input.
That and various nasally working class Dubs whispering, "where's yer man gone now??" here and there throughout.
