This is the worst trailer for a movie I've seen all year, and I stand by that after seeing the movie. The trailer made me not want to see this movie and it is absolutely fantastic. Edward Norton's passion is clear on screen. He has crafted a wonderful tribute to noir films with Motherless Brooklyn (I couldn't tell it was noir from the trailer).
Norton uses his cast's strengths to his advantage. Baldwin and Cannavale most notably are playing noir archetypes that they are kind of typecast for. Even Bruce Willis is barely in the movie since he doesn't care about giving a performance any more. Motherless Brooklyn has the best editing I've seen all year and a score that can't stop playing in my mind. I'm looking forward to a second watch. Best Noir film of 2019!
