Well this was a weird one. I'm glad I finally watched this (so I could completionist this year's Golden Globe nominees) because it was not at all what I was expecting. At least five times I asked "what the f**k is this movie?" Was it a satire of family comedies? It seems like it is self-aware at points, but at times seems cliche without intent. Kristen Wiig was my favorite part with her playing the one-dimensional villain that actually has a character arc (gasp!). This could be a fun one to watch with friends while drinking. Otherwise, I would only recommend checking this out if you are a Richard Linklater fan and you want to see a movie where he doesn't try very hard.
