Dinelka Balasuriya’s review published on Letterboxd:
Yes, The Thing is one of the most beloved films by today, well surpassing its initial lukewarm reception. While the special effects are an absolute marvel, and the cinematography and lighting are exhilarating, I’ve never quite found The Thing to be as intense and riveting for me as it is for others, and that may partly have something to do with the crew of characters that surround Kurt Russell’s MacReady. The definitive comparison for me would be the crew on Alien, and they simply leave more of an impact such that them getting slowly killed leaves more of an impact. The Thing has pioneered special effects, but it has been one of a number of classics that never fails to leave me bitterly disappointed.
