I watch movies but do not claim to be an expert. Still, slap me if I become too pedantic.

Definitely a cool concept for a horror movie, and it worked fairly well. Haunted decor isn’t exactly a new concept, but I don’t think I’ve heard of a manipulative antique mirror.

It’s not tremendously scary or suspenseful, but it was fun enough. I say it’s worth a shot.

The most interesting aspect of this film is it’s depiction of a pandemic very close to covid a decade before it actually happened. Invariably, you’ll find yourself contrasting this film with the covid outbreak, noting some of the eery similarities.

Still, we ended up with a real pandemic that wasn’t quite as powerful but certainly with a lot of the same hysteria. Otherwise, I find it a decent film, but not something that blew my mind.

It’s hard to pin down why I love this film so much when it’s enjoyed mixed reviews at best. Perhaps it’s the visuals that take on a Pink Floyd dynamic or the amazing score from Jerry Goldsmith. It’s certainly not the story, which wandered its way through development hell while Paramount was deciding whether it was going to be a feature film or a plot for a new series.

It’s a dumb buddy-cop romp that only the ‘80s could produce. It’s silly, fast and fun, and Dan Aykroyd absolutely slays as straight-man Friday. It’s a movie I’ve watched since I was a kid, and I can always revisit and have fun.
