has talented cast but instead of making something scary or engaging they tried to make something empowering so it was dull and repetitive. We so often forget the best way to empower us is usually to entertain us
I was really irritated at first because it seemed everything that built tension in the book was silly in the movie. Also it did a very poor job at building the relationships despite the good acting. All the stuff in the house was handled very poorly but the stuff on the river was good. The last 30 minutes are pretty much all river and so I enjoyed that part of it even if it does require a major suspension of disbelief.
In the end I'd say disappointing but has some strong points. Could have been so much better
