My boy wrote a great essay about the communal experience of watching schlocky horror movies together on Discord—an activity we've enjoyed for years that has taken on new relevance amidst the pandemic. He also touches on the Letterboxd community and captures why I think this site is the best social media network out there.

Give it a read below, it's not long!

    ★★★½

I like to remember Lost Highway my own way, by rewatching the best parts on youtube. I always forget how ephemeral most of this film is—haunted by the ghost of James Hurley—because the things it does well are unforgettable. This is probably my fourth watch and I can't say I ever really got it until I read Patrick Pryor's review, which completely unlocked this film for me.

    The Haunting of Hill House

    ★½

    Interminable.

The Haunting of Hill House has the worst writing I have ever seen in something so well-regarded. Given the glut of hidden ghost listicles, I can only surmise that its popularity is based on finding easter eggs. Well congrats everyone, you "solved" the show! You 100%d it. This is the only explanation for its popularity that makes sense to me.

This series suffers no subtlety. Visual storytelling? Succinct dialogue? Ambiguity? No, absolutely not. Anything remotely interesting gets rounded off…

YES!!! YESSSSS!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! IT LIVED UP TO MY HYPE!!!!!! ROB ZOMBIE'S WESTERN HANGOUT!!!!!!!!! YEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!

The ol boy's still got it, and apparently hasn't gotten any of the memos in the past 10 years. God bless him, he's out here doing his thing without a care in the world. This is a genuine sequel to The Devil's Rejects: violent, nasty, mean, and exploitative as all hell. I really hope we get to see more from Zombie, because filmmakers like him are…
