This film is like a fever dream from start to finish. Whether it's the cast of children making bizarre faces, or the random shots of animals - some real, some fake - this was just one of the weirdest early films I've seen. That is not to say that it's all bad, I was kind of into the story by the end, but it was just so so strange...

The Blot 1921
I really enjoyed this one. It was heavy-handed in delivering its message that teachers and clergymen are grossly underpaid (wow, how times have changed, huh?) but what else could be expected from a film that doesn't have the ease of extensive dialogue to carry its theme? After seeing a couple of Weber shorts and now this full-length film, I definitely want to see what else I can find from her because I have really found all of what I have seen compelling. I really thought this was quite good and would recommend it.

Vampyr 1932
Carl Theodor Dreyser directed this super creepy near-silent film about a young supernatural enthusiast who finds himself face to face with dark forces at a remote inn. The film has a very sparse plot, but is teeming with stark and disturbing imagery. This is definitely a must-see for cinephiles (I was late to the party) and lovers of German Expressionism.

Dune 2021
Look, I'll just tell it straight. This is pretty much the exact opposite of a film I tend to enjoy, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the film, the acting, etc. It's just totally not my thing. It IS the thing for the person I watched it with, so I kept my mouth shut and my eyerolls to myself, but despite my dislike for the subject matter, Dune is a well-made film, and deserves the accolades it has received. Having said that, I have zero interest in seeing "part two" so I'm glad Chris will be seeing it in the theater. :)
