Eternal Summer 2006
It’s gonna suck when there are no more countries where being gay is a taboo thing and there are no more movies purely predicated on two handsome young men wanting to fuck each other more than anything on earth but just lying to each other and themselves about it to the point where it rips them and their relationship apart. Best movie genre in history. When I see a happy gay character on screen I gag and throw up. Nowhere near the best entry in that genre but still very good.

“We’re supposed to give up us, for them?!”
Absolutely terrifying. Can’t remember the last time I’ve been hit by a movie like this. One of the best films of the decade.

Saint Omer 2022
So much to appreciate here. Phenomenal screenplay. Great performances. I love how different the courtroom scenes feel depending on whether they’re shot matter of factly or from Rama’s perspective. Best use of a song I’ve seen in a movie in a very long time. There’s a cut in the last scene of this movie that absolutely destroyed me. Go see this.

Another movie that I want to like because it’s not based on an IP but it’s just so shit that I can’t. Feels like there’s been a lot of those this year.

Malignant 2021
You may not have heard about this but a while ago, Martin Scorsese likened Marvel movies to "theme park rides" rather than cinema. A lot of very stupid people were annoyed at this statement. To me though, what annoyed me was not the intent behind the statement, but the specific metaphor he chose. Of course what Scorsese is criticizing in that full quote is the view of cinema as nothing more than a way of furthering a brand and making…
