when i toured as a drummer a few years ago, this was my worst fear. also, as a producer/engineer, i kept thinking about how much i wanted to EQ the post-implant sound.
beyond the literal plot, this movie’s themes about change & adapting to a “new normal” cant feel any more timely.

i feel like pixar has recently run into a theme problem - theyve either conveyed interesting themes in a very obvious/bland way (inside out, incredibles 2) or theyve had decent execution of questionable themes (toy story 4).
with onward, i think pixar has once again found an interesting/compelling way to tell a story that contains beautiful/layered themes. i guess it’s technically a spoiler that the movie is less about a father/son relationship and more about a big/little brother relationship. and this bait & switch worked so well for me.
