    Is it possible to be hilarious and depressing in equal measure? To shoot a place so well, I considered buying plane tickets the first free moment I got? To be mildly racist and still loved by me and my family?

    The answer, shockingly, is a resounding yes.

    Gloria Swanson perfectly embodies the Norma Desmond character, and she brings that desperately narcissistic and hopelessly delusional edge needed to bring this person to life in spades. The movie wouldn't work half as well without her. The character of Norma is not only super well acted, but written perfectly. While Swanson delivers the lines super convincingly (not to mention her body movement and language) the lines themselves have to be given similar credit. The script and Swanson together create this unforgettable character who steals every scene she's in. She is the glue that holds this already entertaining story together.

    This is a joyless product with no originality, no voice, no joy, and no emotion. It takes the original and sucks the life out of it, leaving behind something dead that looks the same on the surface, but is hollow on the inside.
