• The Comeback Trail

    The Comeback Trail

Despite only giving this film two and a half stars it still has a special place in my heart. It’s an odd film. It feels incredibly finally mismatched having some real moments of depth followed by slapstick. It managed in short spans of time pull on your heart strings and immediately either laugh or want to turn it off. It’s strange and yet pleasant.

I don’t want to go into too much detail on the plot as I don’t want…

  • The 'Burbs

    The 'Burbs

Classic Tom Hanks comedy. One of my personal favourites. Still funny today!

  • The Matrix Revolutions

    The Matrix Revolutions

Better than Reloaded.  Not as good as the first. Still visually stunning and still sets a standard to this day.

  • The Mitchells vs. The Machines

    The Mitchells vs. The Machines

    I’ve had an awful week.

I needed something to make me laugh.

This was a great interval in one of the worst weeks I’ve had.

  • Magic Camp

    Magic Camp

More enjoyable than I thought it was going to be.

Not as enjoyable as it thinks it is.

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

A great finish to the franchise with some of the finest acting from Radcliffe, Watson and Grint. All get lots of credit here.

  • The Matrix Reloaded

    The Matrix Reloaded

I absolutely LOVE the Matrix movies. They are real game changers of movies. Their legacy still lives on in cinema today.

Man this, as a film and story, is awful.

The action set pieces and fight scenes are amazing. The use of CGI are ground breaking. The choreography is still breath taking.

    The script is awful.
The film is bloated and doesn’t need to be anywhere near this long.
The story isn’t that great either. It loses some…

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

This is a good movie, but has been eclipsed by both Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. The characters all do very little yet the story is emotionally engaging and you’re invested in it despite very little actually happening. This just shows the world Yates has created works. The colour pallets, script, soundtrack, cinematography and use of silence all being excellent.

This sets up part two perfectly and I’m so glad the final was split into these two films. I feel we’re able to really settle into this film for a grand finale.

  • Unhinged

Ok, I wasn’t expecting this. Straight up. Unhinged? Yep, that’s pretty accurate.

The opening scene a shocking eye opener. The starting credits takes itself too seriously. Then we see 60 minutes of rage fuelled mayhem once we have an annoying 20 minutes of poor character building.

It’s not a great film at all but it’s worth watching to see Crowe go the full Nicholson.

  • Tremors: Shrieker Island

    Tremors: Shrieker Island

Wow. Another Tremors movie and another three stars. I love the Tremors franchise but 3,4 and 5 were dreadful. I watched 6 recently and really enjoyed it. Felt like the Tremors of old and was a three star movie. When I saw Tremors 7 added John Heder to the cast I was worried. I shouldn’t have been.

This Tremors is a lot darker than any that have come before but still has a good sense of fun thanks to Michael…

  • Stowaway

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting from this movie. A Netflix own sci-fi. Generally Netflix haven’t been amazing when it comes to creating sci-fi. A track record of looking good but not being a great movie. But I continue to hope so I turned to this.

What I found was a slow burn space drama. Astronauts in tough situations trying to overcome the impossible is a quest to keep them all alive. The cast kept small to four. Which…

  • Soul

I’m in the middle of a glut of 5 star reviews right now. It made me question if I give 5 stars out too easily, which I might, but I stand by it. Dunkirk, Nomadland and now Soul are all 5 star movies for me and very very different films. This is why I LOVE cinema!!!!

I wasn’t actually looking forward to Soul that much. I had felt disappointed with Onward and had questioned whether this was the start of…
