It’s looks lovely. It has an interesting cast of Cillian Murphy, Luke Evans and Helen Mirren. It has Luc Besson behind the camera directing assassins. It should be great.

    But it’s not.

It thinks itself cleverer than it is and only half as entertaining as it wants to be.

  • Emma.

I am not a period dramary type person. I don’t watch or enjoy things like pride and prejudice. I just don’t enjoy them. But... Emma is a different kettle of fish (not that I’ve ever put fish in a kettle).

It is a period piece, but the story is fantastic. It’s funny, it’s cold, it’s tense, it has romance and drama but it’s human! The characters are so well written and acted by the whole cast, a range of known…

    Fast & Furious

Ok, I wasn’t planning to watch the 4th F and F movie after watching the third but I just couldn’t help myself. I was really looking forward to seeing Brian and Dom together again...but man did this movie disappoint. The fact that I enjoyed the third more shows just how disappointing this was.

The first hour sees Brian and Dom in opposition and rarely sharing screen time. Here the film is slow and no chemistry or fun. Finally for the…

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Ok so the acting isn’t good.... and nor is the writing... but in one of the most successful franchises of this century we may have been given the worst movie but introduced to the series best character in Han.  Not only that but in centring a film on drifting adds more to the driving style which is so central to the franchise as a whole.

    Is it great? No.

It’s stupid, car racing fun that is mildly entertaining enough to take my mind off the world around me and switch off. It’s simple escapism and sometimes that’s enough.

    Crazy, Stupid, Love.

I absolutely hated this when it came out back in 2011. My wife loved it. She bought it on dvd. For years I have point blank refused to watch it. Till this week.

Man, was I wrong about this movie!!!

It's great. Carell, Gosling, Stone, Tomei and Moore are all perfect in this film that treads the fine line of family drama and modern comedy. A line that Carell walks effortlessly and in this movie the cast all walk it…

Another classic in our house. How the filmed the chariot scene is beyond me. A brilliant example of a truly epic movie.

A classic in my house and my life and always will be.

  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Another star wars film that gets bad press. Another blockbuster that gets bad press due to final act having to be rewritten and filmed and like Solo and Dark Phoenix the public fall out of the rewriting and filming performed more poorly than expected and received more poorly by the critics than expected.

Anyway... I shall put my beef to one side...

I love this film. Its Star Wars, a little different, a little unexpected but still Star Wars. The…

  • Dark Phoenix

    Dark Phoenix

A lot better than a lot of people said it was.

Essentially a character piece about ego, pride, hurt, brokenness and pain but wrapped in a superhero franchise. This is a different beast to the other X men movies before it and brings some real character dilemmas and grey areas into the characters which Matthew Vaughan really started with First Class. Its completely different to anything Marvel is churning out as well.

I love the MCU...I really LOVE the MCU…

  • Cinderella

A good take from Disney, giving us more of the story than the cartoon version but sticking enough to it DNA-wise for it to be recognisable. Good performances all round and generally it's pretty good.

  • Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

An extremely well told version of the Ted Bundy story through his ex fiance. Zac Efron plays it perfectly and deserves a lot of recognition for what he does in the role. As the film moves on and on you become more and more deeply unsettled. A great piece of visual story telling.

  • The Princess and the Frog

    The Princess and the Frog

A lot worse than I remember.

Poor visuals. Poor songs. Some strange plot choices and the choice of a voodoo magician is not really "family friendly". A sign that in the late 2000s Disney lost its way.
